Financial Institution Deploying User-Commanded Learning System

The Vice President of Training of a major financial institution has a few writers in his team who use the Information Mapping® method in their work. Recognizing the Information Mapping method as a useful, analytical tool, the VP of Training saw a perfect fit in using the method to create reusable units of content for an enterprise user-commanded learning system. This system will be incorporated into the organization's learning system soon. As a result, he sponsored an onsite Information Mapping class to teach others about this useful analytical tool.

Vision for the Learning System

The organization's Institutional Investment group advocates a prescriptive or adaptive learning environment in its sector of corporate education. Real time training is available to employees on demand, and customized to their orders and needs.

To facilitate this environment, modular content units are necessary to populate the "just-for-you" training program. Modular content are created once by employees then meta-tagged for future access, maintenance and reuse. This content can then be used many times through re-purposing processes.

e-Learning Program

Information Mapping introduced its new e-Learning program, Developing Business and Technical Communications™ at an opportune time for the organization to take advantage. This is an instructor-led, e-Learning program teaching the Information Mapping method.

Fourteen content-writers of the organization's training group participated in the e-Learning program. Information Mapping's instructor encouraged participants to incorporate specific samples of the content they are authoring as class assignments. Some of the topics included:

  • processing additional payments and beneficiary changes
  • describing the purpose of a service and using it
  • defining the terms in benefit pension plans
  • communicating human resources and the payroll functions of a plan account
  • using the File Transfer Protocol toolbar, and
  • understanding a training development planning process.

Conclusion

The organization's graduates of Information Mapping's e-Learning course felt the course prepared them to make significant contributions to the successful deployment of their enterprise user-commanded learning system. They believe they can build upon what they learned and quickly apply the skills to their content authoring work.
