Custom Training Success Stories
Network Plus
In July 1999, Network Plus, an integrated communication provider of voice and data services, faced a monumental task. The implementation of a new software system that integrates four main business areas; Customer Service, Provisioning, Billing/Collections, and General Administration. Not only did all the employees have to learn the new software system being installed, but they had to relearn their job processes and workflow requirements simultaneously.
In order to successfully conclude two years of product development and to ensure the most vital piece of the puzzle implementation went smoothly, Network Plus called upon Information Mapping consultants to develop and coordinate training on the new system for all segments of its business. In addition to the training, Information Mapping developed critical job aids that included both procedure and training guides.
How a Financial Institution Made Its Training Content Work!
As one might imagine, the world of finance somewhat lacks luster but is highly regulated, thus making the creation of training content a somewhat challenging task. Throughout my years of training in the financial services industry, one area that is most commonly remarked upon in evaluations is the uninteresting manual that comes with the job. Page after page of policies, procedures, product descriptions, and regulations tend to come back with a rating of tedium.
I attended an Information Mapping seminar and have since been on a mission to get higher ratings on our training content. I followed their systematic method for analyzing, organizing and presenting information. I began chunking and re-chunking, then began writing. Although at times it felt like a non-ending task, I stuck with the method and was finally ready to go live with our new training manual.

Dow rolls out successful SAP training
"People who go to the SAP training developed by Information Mapping are better prepared than those who do not. They are more effective, know how to use reference documentation, and can approach situations effectively because they know what to expect." Training Coordinator, Dow
Dow's DOWFAS is the largest SAP-based financial accounting system in the world. To implement this system, Dow reengineered the way they did business, and provided their accountants with performance-based training for using the DOWFAS system.
Information Mapping was chosen to design and develop the training for Dow accountants. This training is now being used worldwide.
Epsilon targets training to meet business requirements
Two of Epsilon's strategic initiatives focus on the areas of training and career development, and the development of client/server solutions. To meet these objectives, Epsilon needed to identify the scope and depth of the training needs for parts of their organization.
Information Mapping's consulting services resulted in
- a highly customized learning and development strategy for client/server roles
- targeted training directed to meet business requirements, and
- an easy transition into newly defined work roles.
Effective systems training eliminates help desk calls
A world leader in the barcode-driven data transaction systems industry with an installed base of more than 5 million scanners and hand-held computers, needed to launch an enterprise-wide computer system to thousands of users worldwide.
They partnered with Information Mapping to develop over 20 performance-focused end-user training courses and a Train-the-Trainer workshop. A modular approach met the needs of several audiences, and training went so well that there were zero calls to the help desk the day the system went live.
Installation training is the best ever
A large telecom manufacturing company partnered with Information Mapping to generate training for installing state-of-the-art power systems. Using a strategy for working with new, complex, and highly technical information, Information Mapping designed training and materials that were learner-focused and job-based. Those trained reported that this was the best technical training they had attended and often refer to the training materials on the job.
Financial Advisor training impresses client
A large financial institution contacted Information Mapping to create a series of Self-Study Guides that would provide both sales training and product training for new and experienced Financial Advisors. The training materials were to be designed so they would serve as a reference tool once the training was completed. An additional challenge in this project was to present the technical information in a manner that was "not too dry."
Instructional Designers at Information Mapping met the challenge by developing a creative client-centered approach. This approach integrated the sales and product training, and provided easily accessible technical information. Engaging interactive scenarios completed the package, making the training practical and hands-on. The client was "very impressed" with this fresh approach to sales and product training.
Custom training improves field tech installation accuracy
A leading multi-national company that provides workforce information, security, and building communications solutions, was rolling out a new type of fire alarm panel.
Information Mapping was engaged to train their technical representatives to install and maintain this new panel at customer sites. Information Mapping's team designed and developed an instructor-led training course that provided the specific information needed for installation. The training also included significant hands-on practice on the actual fire alarm panel. The client, and their customers, was very pleased with the technical representatives' accurate installation of the panels.
