Live Document Validation in FS Pro 2013

When you start FS Pro 2013, you will see an outline pane on the left hand side of Microsoft Word. The outline pane serves multiple functions:

  • Navigation: It shows the structure of the FS Pro document, allowing the writer to easily jump to specific Maps and Blocks.
  • Validation: The outline pane shows which, if any, Blocks contain invalid styles or other validation errors. Invalid Blocks are highlighted in red, and a description of the error is displayed at the bottom of the outline pane.
  • Information Types: The outline pane shows by means of icons which Information Type is associated with a certain Map or Block. This way, the writer gets a clear overview of the type of information his document contains.

The context-sensitive navigation pane is a fantastic enhancement - especially because with the current software, it is usually impossible to tell where parts and chapters begin and end by looking at the mapped documents (the heading style is the same for these plus publication and map).
