Internal Revenue Service (U.S. Government, Department of the Treasury)
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is the U.S. government agency responsible for tax collection and tax law enforcement.
Description of the project
IM US has provided the IRS with training in the Information Mapping method for hundreds of writers working on a project to revise the 5,000 page Internal Revenue Manual. The Method has been adopted as the documentation standard for the Manual.
In addition, training in the Method is mandatory for all IRS policy writers. This training has also become mandatory for all new hires in the IRS' Appeals Branch.
The IRS reports that use of the Method is enabling them to achieve
- faster, easier development of policies and procedures documents
- clearer, more consistent documents that are easier to navigate and easier to understand, and
- a clearer, more concise Internal Revenue Manual.
